Network Marketing Success – How to Choose a Network Marketing Company, Episode 1

Do you know what to look for in a network marketing company to give you the best opportunity for network marketing success?

According to longtime network marketer and student of the industry Michael Dlouhy, there are 5 pillars for success in network marketing: 1) Company Management Experience, 2) Timing in the Company, 3) A Remarkable Product, 4) Compensation plan, and 5) A system for success.

Without all five of the pillars in place, the chances of long term network marketing success, paying your children and grandchildren, are greatly diminished. However, without Pillar #1Company Management Experience, Michael says that you can forget about having walk-away residual income, and the rest of the pillars do not even matter.

Company management experience – The hallmark of company management experience is integrity. Who do you think has the distributor’s best interest at heart – a company manager who comes from a fortune 500 culture or a manager who has been a distributor in the trenches? Would you imagine that someone who has not been in the field, has not driven for hours to present at a meeting at which only one person or even no one shows up, would ever take away from the compensation plan? Would this person ever do something that would hurt the distributor? Yet this happens in many network marketing companies.

Does a company experience network marketing success and growth without the efforts of the distributor? The distributor makes the company. As a distributor or prospective distributor, do you know who makes the decisions and signs the checks?

How do you know if the company management has integrity? That’s easy. Just read the Policies and Procedures. This is the contract for how you do the business with the company. Distributors: did you ever read yours? Prospective distributors: Do you plan to read yours? Are they even made available to you before you join the company? If not – why would you want to join a company without knowing the terms of the contract? Would you make a large purchase without reading the contract?

Network marketing success depends on putting out effort and takes a significant time commitment. How would you feel if you put out a great deal of effort and spent your valuable time only to have the rules changed on you? How would you feel and how would you make ends meet if you made less money for the same work or even had the fruits of your effort, your own organization within the company and, by extension your paycheck, taken away from you and given to someone else in the company?

Can’t happen, you say? Won’t happen, you believe? It can and it does in many companies. How can you tell if this is possible? READ your company’s or prospective company’s Policies and Procedures.

So to insure you choose a company where you can find a home and have network marketing success, what are you looking for in these policies and procedures? Are they a novel, meaning, many pages? Do you need an attorney to interpret? These are red flags. As you go through them, look for words such as "ongoing sales, ongoing recruiting, ongoing training, " "continuous recruiting". What does that mean? You can’t retire. If you stop selling, recruiting, training – you can lose your paycheck. Didn't you sign up in the first place so that you could build your business and in a few years be able to retire?

Now, might you think that this couldn’t happen to you, perhaps that you’re not a big enough fish in the pond to be noticed? Do you trust that the company would never enforce such a policy? Let me ask you this: why would this clause be in the policies and procedures in the first place?

Also look out for the word "assign" – which can mean that distributors you sign up can be moved or "assigned" to another person. Look for language that says the company can move your distributors anywhere it wants at its discretion; words that say the company can terminate you for any reason with a 30 day notice.

Do you want to have network marketing success, build your business once and be paid over and over again? Do you want to find a home? Do your due diligence and READ the policies and procedures of any company you are with or are considering.

I agree Wendy, if you get involved with a company first before reading Policies and Prodedures, it is so hard to break away when you realize there are a bunch of "gotcha's"
